Chapter 1: The Beginning of the End
Usagi Tsukino climbed through her bedroom window, careful not to let blood get anywhere on the walls. She silently walked to the bathroom and locked the door in case anyone tried to walk in on her. With a sigh, she opened a cabinet and took out the first aid kit that she had, by now, lots of practice using.
Grimacing, she rolled up her shirt to expose her pale belly and the deep gasp that was on it. She carefully wiped the excess blood away with a wet rag and took out a bottle of alcohol, preparing herself for the pain that was sure to come in just a few moments.
She hissed in agony as she splashed the liquid on her wound, eyes shut tightly to prevent any tears from spilling. When the worst was over, she took some gauze and wrapped it securely around her midsection.
Checking herself in the mirror for any stray bruises that she might have missed, she frowned at her appearance.
Her golden hair was in disarray, speckled with blood and dirt. Her eyes were red with lack of sleep and exhaustion, while her full pink lips were spilt and dripping the crimson liquid that she was so used to seeing.
She couldn't let any anyone see her like this. It would raise questions that she didn't want to answer. She wouldn't deal with that if she didn't have to.
Taking out the Ginzuishou (an: Sp?) she focused her fading energy and smiled slightly as she let the crystals healing power wash over her and make her bruises and cuts disappear.
She walked back to her room and carefully stripped out of her dirty clothes so as not to aggravate her wound any further. Putting on some pajamas, she climbed into bed, drawing the covers around her.
She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
A couple hours later she was awaked by something landing on her stomach and had to prevent herself from screaming in pain.
"Usagi no baka! Ikuko-mama told me to wake you so you wouldn't be late to school! Again!" Chibi-Usa said, getting off of her future mother.
Usagi opened up her eyes and glared at the smaller girl. She slowly sat up, wincing, and removed the covers from her body. She watched as Chibi-Usa stepped out of the room with smirk on her face, red eyes shinning with disgust.
She never told anyone, but the only reason she was always falling asleep in class and stayed in late was that while the other senshi were in snuggled happily in their beds, she was outside, fighting stray youma so no one would get hurt. She just hoped that she would last a bit longer. The youma were getting smarter and, even though they weren't stronger, she was getting weaker. Her wounds never had time to properly heal before the next battle.
After about ten minutes, she walked down into the kitchen, plastering on a fake smile for her parents. As she began her daily walk to school, she began to think how her life had taken a turn for the worst.
At first, it was fine, even though she was never happy with being Sailor Moon and having her destiny planned out for her. Then, something changed. Her friends didn't want to be around her anymore, and constantly found some way to hurt her feelings or remind her what a stupid clumsy ditz she was. Mamoru, her Mamo-chan, ignored her and she could see that he was embarrassed to be seen with her out in public.
She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't have time to stop as she walked around a corner and bumped into someone. She grimaced as she landed on the hard pavement, scraping her hands and drawing a few drops of blood.
"I'm really sorry! It was my fault! I wasn't watching where I was going!" she apologized, not looking at the person at the front of her.
"No, you weren't. When are you going to grow up?"
She gasped and finally brought her gaze to the mans face. Perfect. This day just couldn't get any worst, could it?
A strong hand harshly gripped her arm and pulled her up, nearly pulling her shoulder out of its socket.
"Mamo-chan... " she said, and there was something in his eyes that she didn't like. True, they were always cold, but today there was something else. In an attempt to get away without being to obvious, she excused herself, saying that she was going to be late for school. She could feel his eyes fallowing her as she ran down the street as fast as her legs and gash would let her.
She was panting when she finally got to her classroom seconds before the bell rang. As she took her seat, she noticed that Ami and Minako were glaring at her.
'Great.' she thought, 'What have i done now? I made it on time, didn't I?'
The day went by uneventfully. She got detention because she, once again, fell asleep in class and them had to deal with the humiliation of standing in front of everyone and trying to do a problem on the blackboard that was impossible for her to understand.
She wasn't dumb. Not at all. No one just took the time to teach her properly, with patience. Everyone gave up on her, so she gave up on herself.
Finally, class was over, and after detention, she dreaded going back home, knowing that her mother would find some reason to yell and ground her. It was always the same. Nothing was ever good enough. The one time that she actually got a 'good' grade, everyone, including her friends and parents, accused her of cheating and she got punished.
She didn't even bother to defend herself. What was the point, after all? It wouldn't change anything.
Suddenly, she stopped, an idea hitting her.
Maybe she couldn't change her destiny, but she sure could stop if for a while. And she knew exactly how to do it.
She picked up speed as she ran to an alley, going farther into it and hiding behind a dumpster. She didn't care that she was getting dirty, or that flies landed on her hair and skin. All that mattered was that soon she would have peace.
At least for a little bit.
She spotted a piece of broken glass laying in some mud. Grinning, she picked the treasured item up, glancing at it with sadistic warmth in her blue eyes.
She placed it on her wrist, and, without a moment of hesitation, dug it deep within her flesh. After she had done a satisfactory job, she did the same thing to her other wrist and watched, mesmerized, as crimson blood ran in waves down her arms and began to pool all around her in a puddle.
All of a sudden, she felt light-headed and even, happy. All of her worries and pain was fading away, as was her life.
Then, she slumped against the wall, her eyes closing, the light from them forever gone.
The next thing felt was sweet, comforting blackness and gentle arms holding her.
